For this episode of the PlanetMicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Alan Brochstein, the Cannabis Financial Analyst of 420Investor.com. In Episode 3, we learned more about the business of cannabis and marijuana, but didn’t cover a lot of what’s going on from a capital markets perspective. So, I wanted a better understanding of the industry from the point of view of an investor. There are a lot of publicly-traded companies in the cannabis space, and its important to me to understand what we should look out for when looking at a potential company to invest in.
The goal for this episode is to get a better understanding of the marijuana industry in the capital markets, what, as an investor, we should look out for when considering investment in a public cannabis company, how to evaluate management, and more!

- Overview of the marijuana industry in the capital markets – who were some of the first public cannabis companies, and how it has evolved over time
- Different sectors within the industry
- How federal regulations affect the industry
- What should investors be aware of, and potentially look out for, especially with the election coming up in November
- As an investor, what we should look out for when considering investment in a public cannabis company
- How to evaluate management - Positive and negative characteristics
- His most recent article from the MicroCapReview, your title, “Cannabis investors have reasons for optimism in 2016” –discusses why we should have more optimism in 2016 when 2015 proved to be a huge disappointment for the publicly-traded cannabis stocks

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Brent Cook from Exploration Insights. One of the first conferences I went to since joining the business was a mining and resources conference back in 2011 and 2012 during the natural resources bull market. During that time, I was meeting a lot of experts in the field, and the one person I gravitated towards most was my guest on today’s show, Brent Cook. Geology is not an exact science, and picking the right company that has a promising resource can be difficult. It helps learning from geologists who analyze and look at these rocks on a daily basis. Brent has been in the business for a long time and has seen a lot of rocks.
The goal for this episode is to get a general understanding of the mining and junior mining sector, the business itself, opportunities when investing in junior mining companies, his criteria, tips to analyzing mining results and PEA’s, and more.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Jason Napodano from BioNap, Inc. Since starting the podcast, one topic I really wanted to cover was MicroCap investing in healthcare and life sciences. I’m not a scientist, nor have I taken a science class since college, and yet, when I do interviews or read more information about MicroCap healthcare and life sciences companies, I sometimes get a bit intimidated or nervous because the science behind these companies can be a little complicated. In this interview, Jason helps me better understand investing in Healthcare and Life Science microcap companies.
In PART 1 we cover the following: Jason’s background and how he got started in the business, how to get started, complete dissection of clinical trials, and the different business strategies in the healthcare industry.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Maj Soueidan from GeoInvesting.com. I met Maj at a conference recently and we had a great conversation about this concept that I wanted to learn more about: “Information Arbitrage.” On the program, we’ve talked about the importance of doing your due diligence, which includes reading an issuer’s press releases, SEC Filings, etc…, including where to find all of this information, as well as why understanding this material to the best of your ability, can help you gain an edge when investing. In this interview, Maj stresses the importance of reacting to and finding public information before other market participants. In addition to learning more about “Information Arbitrage,” we also discuss his research techniques, the difference between value stocks and growth stocks, and of course, I ask for his advice for new MicroCap investors.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, we’re picking up where we left off from my PART 1 conversation with Chip Maloney, frequent contributor to MicroCapClub.com, Brandon Mackie from Small Cap Discoveries and Philippe Belanger from Espacemc.com.
As I said last time, we covered a lot of information during our roundtable so I thought it would be best separate the interview into two parts. In part 2, we discuss whether the due diligence process is different when researching Canadian companies versus U.S. companies, speaking with management, their advice for aspiring MicroCap investors, and more.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Mike Schellinger from MicroCapClub.com. In this interview, we discuss how he started investing in MicroCaps, his experiences with failures and success, how he finds new investment ideas, as well as discuss some of his articles he’s written for the MicroCapClub.com.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Scott Felsenthal from UnusualStocks.net. His interest in MicroCap investing led him to starting his own newsletter, called UnusualStocks.net, which he launched with fellow MicroCap Investor, Matthew D’Addario.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I wanted to learn more about the importance of different communications tools that MicroCap companies use on a regular basis. There's many communications tools that MicroCap companies use to communicate their stories. Some are required, some are not. But, If you’ve ever done research on a public company and looked at the company’s news feed on Yahoo Finance or StockNewsNow.com, you’ve probably read one of the following: a press release, an SEC Filing, XBRL filing, or an Edgar or SEDAR Filing. These are tools that public companies use to communicate their corporate messages. I want to understand these tools a little better because, besides when management talks to media like, StockNewsNow.com, its these documents that will help you and I know what a public company is currently up to. And when it comes to MicroCap stocks – transparency and information is incredibly valuable.
To help me with this task, I spoke with Bradley Smith, Director of Marketing, Investor Relations and Regulatory Compliance Services for PR Newswire and Vintage Group, a global provider of corporate communications tools and services, enabling marketers to distribute: press releases, SEC Filings, Edgar Filings, XBRL, and more.
The Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Summer/Fall 2015
In this episode, Mr. Smith and I discuss the following topics:
- Who is PR Newswire/Vintage Group? What does the company do?
- Companies are required by regulatory authorities to provide the public with specific current events, material changes, and compliance oriented information, explain the business relationship public companies should have with their information service providers.
- What constitutes when information is public? When the company sends it to PR Newswire or when say Yahoo finance publishes it?
- What are Press Releases, XBRL tagging and filing, SEC Filings, Edgar Filings, and SEDAR Filings
- What’s the difference between Press Releases and SEC Filings?
- Why do all public companies, including MicroCaps, have to disseminate, report and distribute their information and press releases?
- As a MicroCap investor, why should we pay attention to all of these various documents?
- Before the Internet, how did investors, or anyone for that matter, access this information?
- Where can we find this information?
- You can follow Bradley Smith @BHSMITH
