For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I caught up with Chris Lahiji. As the founder of LD Micro and the LD Micro Index, Chris hosts two conferences every year: LD Micro Invitational and Main Event. Chris and his team are about to embark on their 10th annual Main Event, and I thought it would be fun to catch up with him on some of the things he’s learned hosting what are now, as he describes, “industry” events in the MicroCap Space. I also wanted to hear his insights on what has been going on thus far in the MicroCap space for 2017, as well as his thoughts on what we can expect for the rest of the year.
The LD Micro “Main Event” will be Decemeber 5, 6 and 7th at the Luxe Sunset Boulevard Hotel, located in Los Angeles, California. For more information, please visit: www.LDMicro.com.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Mark Tobin. He is a Senior Analyst at Independence Investment Research based in South Africa. My experience with Australian MicroCaps has been largely meeting and interviewing Australian resource companies. When Mark approached me about doing an episode discussing the landscape for MicroCaps in Australia, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity. Even though he is based in South Africa, he worked as an Equity Analyst under Geoff Wilson at Wilson Asset Management in Sydney, Australia. Since he left, he’s been blogging for an investment news platform in Australia called, Livewire Markets, where he’s contributed many articles discussing the topic you will hear about today: Australia and MicroCaps. The goal for this episode is to learn more about the landscape for MicroCap stocks in Australia and Mark’s strategy when assessing an Australian MicroCap Stock.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Michael Liu. He is a private Investor, who has the distinct honor of the being the youngest member of the MicroCapClub. I met Michael at last year’s MicroCap Leadership Summit, and thought it was really cool that he was 16 years old (now 17), already investing in MicroCap stocks and doing this type of due diligence. This podcast is all about educating the next generation of investors how to invest in MicroCap stocks; Michael is part of that next generation of investors. In this interview, he’ll outline how he got started investing in MicroCaps, his investment strategy and how he balanced that with his other obligations.

Ep. 51 - Technical Analysis 101 with Steve Shelton, Cornerstone Global Group
Tuesday Aug 15, 2017
Tuesday Aug 15, 2017
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Steve Shelton, President of Cornerstone Global Group. I met Steve via my father, where they are both members of the ISEEE – International Stock Exchange Executives Emeriti. Steve’s approach, as it states on his website, is an “unbiased, technically oriented market analysis.” Since meeting Steve I’ve been a subscriber to his newsletter, where he provides his perspective on the market using this in-depth technical analyst approach. We’ve discussed MicroCap Investing using a technical analysis approach, however, I wanted to have another discussion covering, as you will hear, the history, fundamental principles and how to employ technical analysis within one’s investing strategy. The goal for this episode is to hone in on the basics and benefits of technical analysis.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Alon Goren, Co-Founder and Host of the Crowd Invest Summit. Recently, three Reg A+ deals were funded and are now trading on exchanges. I wanted to hear Alon’s take on this news. I met Alon when he spoke at one of our events a couple years ago on a crowdfunding panel, and we’ve kept in touch. A little background on Alon: he is a fintech entrepreneur who has dedicated his time and efforts to facilitating and educating the next generation of fundraising and investing, and one platform he does this through is his upcoming conference: Crowd Invest Summit. The goal for this episode is to learn more about equity crowdfunding, how it is different than donation-based crowdfunding, how it relates to MicroCap investing and Alon’s thoughts on recent news in equity crowdfunding.
I’d also like to invite you all to Alon’s event, the Crowd Invest Summit taking place September 6th and 7th at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Downtown LA. When you register for the conference, use the discount code “SNN” and receive 25% off your ticket for admission. We’ll be there as a media sponsor, and looking forward to a great event.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Mark Vonderwell, also known as “Googie” on MicroCapClub.com. I met Mark at the MicroCapClub Leadership Summit last year in Chicago, and over breakfast, we discussed his investing approach. It was during this conversation that I was introduced to Mark’s particular focus and pension for investing in Special Situations. After meeting Mark in Chicago, I read a few of his articles he posted on MicroCapClub.com and thought he’d be the perfect guest to discuss investing in Special Situations. The goal for this episode is to learn more about different Special Situations, Mark’s approach to investing in Spinoffs and Rights Offerings, for example, and his advice for new MicroCap investors.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Ralph Garcea from Echelon Wealth Partners. Ralph was a participant on the “Institutional Investors” panel at the Planet MicroCap Showcase, which is available on Stock News Now’s YouTube channel. After that panel, I had the pleasure of speaking to Ralph more, and I thought he would be a great guest to have to describe his experiences as a professional analyst. We’ve spoken to a lot of individual investors on the podcast discussing their strategies and I was curious if there was a fundamental difference between them and professional analysts. The goal for this episode is to learn more about how a professional analyst goes about doing their due diligence and research on a MicroCap company.

Ep. 47 - Demystifying MicroCap Myths with Denis Amato, Ancora Advisors
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
Tuesday Jun 20, 2017
For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Denis Amato from Ancora Advisors. I recently met Denis while organizing the Planet MicroCap Showcase, and he sent me his firm’s investment letters to read. I thought they were really quite insightful on MicroCap investing. One letter that caught my eye was a paper they published in October 2014, called, “MicroCap Myths.” We’ve touched on this topic a couple times, especially when it comes to mainstream media’s portrayal of MicroCap stocks, well, penny stocks, and I thought this would be an interesting topic to cover in an episode. The goal for this episode is to learn more about Ancora’s MicroCap investment strategy and demystify some of their MicroCap Myths.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Travis Wiedower from Wiedower Capital. I’ve been following Travis’ blog for some time, called, Egregiously Cheap, and reached out to him to see if he’d like to share his thoughts. The main point I wanted to talk about was this idea of CEO alignment with shareholders: Why this is important to him? Why he, “only look(s) at companies where the CEO owns a lot of stock”? The goal for this episode is to learn why Travis pays attention to CEO and C-suite pay and stock ownership, and why that is part of his investment criteria.
