For more than 40 years, Royce & Associates, investment advisor to The Royce Funds, has been managing MicroCap, Small-Cap and small/midcap portfolios. Bill and his partner, Buzz Zaino, run the MicroCap Opportunity Fund and the Opportunity Fund. I wanted to speak with Bill to get his perspective on MicroCap investing. A couple things stood out in our interview, including: Bill and Buzz’s four themes for portfolio construction, his definition of “cheap” stocks, but I thought Bill’s point about diversification vs. concentration as a MicroCap investor was also intriguing. He brought this point up multiple times throughout our interview. The goal for this episode is to learn about Bill’s approach to portfolio construction, advice for new MicroCap investors, his stance on diversification vs. concentration, and much more!

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Jason Hirschman, a private investor who goes by the handle @EightTrack in the MicroCapClub and @EightTrack18 on Twitter. I met Jason during a networking party at the MicroCapClub Leadership Summit, and we were going over the company presentations we had just seen that day. I really enjoyed hearing his thoughts and how he assessed management that presented their companies today. The one thing I took away from our conversation was that, while it’s important to put together your investing thesis: you know, what works and what doesn’t; it’s also really important to question that very same investing thesis. The goal for this episode is to learn about Jason’s investing strategy, how he questions management and his advice for new MicroCap investors.

For this episode of Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Chris Irons, Founder of Quoth the Raven Research and Equity Analyst & Senior Business Writer at GeoInvesting. I was introduced to Chris via Maj Soueidan from GeoInvesting.com and my guest for Episode 14. I wanted to discuss an investing style that depending on who talk to has both positive and negative connotations.
For those who don’t know, Short Selling, selling a stock short or having a short position in a stock, according to Investopedia, is defined as, “the sale of a security that is not owned by the seller, or that the seller has borrowed. Short selling is motivated by the belief that a security’s price will decline, enabling it to be bought back at a lower price to make a profit.”
There is a lot more nuance to short selling as will be evidenced in my interview. The goal for this episode to clearly define and understand what short selling is, how one can do it, why some investors sell stock short and how this applies to MicroCap stocks.
The Planet MicroCap Podcast is brought to you by SNN Incorporated, publishers of StockNewsNow.com, The Official MicroCap News Source, and the MicroCap Review Magazine, the leading magazine in the MicroCap market - check out the latest issue here: MicroCap Review Fall 2016

For this episode of Planet MicroCapPodcast, I spoke with Kevin Shea, Private Investor and Member of theMicroCapClub. I recently met Kevin at the MicroCapClub Leadership Summit inChicago. At lunch, with Kevin leading the discussion, we started talking about a topic that I basically knew nothing about: Technical Analysis. According to Investopedia,Technical Analysis is defined as, “a trading tool employed to evaluate securities and attempt to forecast their future movement by analyzing statistics gathered from trading activity, such as price movement and volume.” Think of Technical Analysis as the opposite of Fundamental Analysis, however, as you will hear, in MicroCap investing, one tool isn’t necessarily used without the other. The goal for this interview is to learn about Technical Analysis and how it can be applied as a tool in your MicroCap investing strategy.

- Where to find more information about “technical analysis”
