For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Nat Stewart, Full-time private investor, Founder of NAS Capital and Editor of the Nat Stewart - Stock Picking Newsletter on Substack. At the time of the recording, only a couple weeks ago, it seemed there was a never ending stream of bad news in finance. So, Nat and I wanted to share with you a good ole fashioned MicroCap conversation. Tune out all the noise by joining Nat and I talking about our mutual love of MicroCap stocks, as well as his investing philosophy with an idea that demonstrates his strategy in action. For me, the best advice Nat gave here was how he uses his stock watchlist - we talk about it all the time on pod, almost everyone we talk to uses one, but Nat clearly outlines a simple, useful way to leverage a watchlist.

NowVertical Group (TSX-V: NOW): Building the Vertical Intelligent Future
Thursday Nov 17, 2022
Thursday Nov 17, 2022
My guest on the show today is Daren Trousdell, Chairman and CEO of NowVertical Group (TSX-V: NOW). NOW is a vertical intelligence "VI" software and solutions company growing organically and through acquisition. NOW’s VI solutions are organized by industry vertical and are built upon a foundational set of data technologies that fuse, secure, and mobilize data in a transformative and compliant way. The NOW product suite enables the creation of high-value VI solutions that are predictive in nature and drive automation specific to each high-value industry vertical.
Periodically, I crowdsource what companies you'd like to hear me interview on here, and NowVertical came up a few times, and they also are a constituent in the Planet MicroCap Index this quarter. With all that said, I invited Daren on the show to discuss:
- NowVertical's acquisition strategy and criteria
- Vertical Intelligence, what this means and suite of software and solutions available to their target customer base, as well as, who is their target customer base
- Path to profitability and balancing that goal with growing at the pace they foresee
With that, please enjoy my conversation with Daren Trousdell, Chairman and CEO of NowVertical Group. For more information about NowVertical Group, please visit: https://www.nowvertical.com/

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Vanck Zhu, full-time private investor. Prior to becoming a full-time investor, as well as working at Etsy, Vanck previously covered the Freight Transports sector on the sell-side and parlayed that experience and launched a substack called, "Planes, Trains, &...Trucks." Even though he hasn't updated his substack for little bit, he still has a wealth of knowledge about the space and thought it'd interesting to learn more about the freight transports sector. He also happened to compete on Season 29 of the Amazing Race, so I guess it's all very appropriate that not only did Vanck compete on THE reality competition show around traveling, he covered the travel (albeit on the freight side) for a living.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Brian Weber, General Partner at BRW Investors. I've known Brian for a few years now, and we actually did a fun panel in 2021 with fellow guests of the show, Chris Krug and Artem Fokin, discussing MicroCap Due Diligence in the virtual world. Brian is as active a MicroCap investor as it gets, who has the record, or is right up there for doing the most 1x1 meetings (at least at our events) in the last few years. In our discussion, we talk about his background, where we have similar inspirations for getting into MicroCaps (our dads!). One key part of the conversation and why I titled this episode what I did is because MicroCap companies can have a tendency to chase that carrot or trend that investors are flocking to. We chat about what separates the companies that are prepared to carrot chase vs. those who are just going to keep chasing.
For more information about Brian Weber, you can connect with him on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brian-weber-12310558/

My guest on the show today is Chia-Lin Simmons, CEO of LogicMark, Inc. (NASDAQ: LGMK). LogicMark, Inc. provides personal emergency response systems (PERS), health communications devices and technologies to create a Connected Care Platform. The Company’s devices give people the ability to receive care at home and confidence to age in place. LogicMark revolutionized the PERS industry by incorporating two-way voice communication technology directly into its medical alert pendant and providing this life-saving technology at a price point everyday consumers can afford. The Company’s PERS technologies are sold through the United States Veterans Health Administration and dealers/distributors. LogicMark has been awarded a contract by the U.S. General Services Administration that enables the Company to distribute its products to federal, state, and local governments. I recently met Chia-Lin at a conference and wanted to have her on to discuss:
- Turn-around strategy and pivoting to LogicMark from NXT-ID
- LogicMark's current products and ultimate goal of becoming a "Caring Platform as a Service" company
- Working with government institutions, in particular, with the Veterans Health Administration and the nature of that relationship, and;
- The company's path to profitability

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Fadi Diab @TheGladiatorHC on Twitter and Billy Duberstein from Stone Oak Capital. We recently published the Q3 2022 issue of the Planet MicroCap Review magazine, which is now available on SCRIBD, ISSUU and Substack. The theme for this issue is "Time to Look for “Fallen Angels” Stocks?". According to the Planet MicroCap Index, from Jan 2022 to the end of Q3, MicroCaps are down 34.74%, not too far off from all major indices. Almost every MicroCap company you look at is down at least 30%-50% on average. As my friend and colleague, Rick Rule, loves to remind me, "Bear Markets are the Authors of Bull Markets", thus I sought after a few authors to help me answer if now is the time to look at some of the most beaten up names out there.
Special thank you to Ben Claremon and Tim Travis, who although couldn't join our chat today, contributed great pieces discussing Fallen Angels as well. Fadi and Billy jumped on to talk more about "Fallen Angels", what that phrase means to them, and more. My favorite part of our conversation today that I think you should all pay attention to is when we discuss how to determine whether a particular stock that's down 30-40-50-80 percent is deserved because it's a dog, or whether it's a quality business whose valuation is more of an overreaction - I thought Billy and Fadi made some excellent points and suggestions here on what they look for here.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Andrew Martin and Nick Peters, CEO and CIO of Fairlight Capital LLC. Fairlight Capital LLC is an alternative investment manager with exposure to Small and MicroCap stocks that I've been following for a while, and its long overdue to have Andrew and Nick on the show. They recently published the Q3 2022 investor letter, so I wanted to dive in to a bunch of topics they brought up in there: value in US community banks, LDI Pension Crisis, outlook for the remainder of 2022, plus their investing strategy and research process, where we talk about their investment in RCI Hospitality.
