For this episode of The Investors Roundtable (#43), we discuss all things energy. Since our last roundtable episode, in which Josh Young was participant, the geopolitical landscape has changed considerably following the horrible invasion of Ukraine by Russia. These actions have had a tremendous impact on the world with ripple effects across all industries. However, for our purposes today, with all the headlines on Oil & Gas, Energy and average national price of gas going up every day, I invited Josh back on so that Steven, Kevin and myself could ask every question we could.

For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with Louis Camhi. He is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer at RLH Capital. We were introduced by Gary Ribe - he knew I've been wanting to do a SPAC episode for a while, and he delivered the perfect guest. Louis runs a SPAC-focused hedge fund, and has been investing in SPACs well before the SPAC craze we've been experiencing today. According to the article, "A Record Pace for SPACs in 2021" on NASDAQ, the total number of SPAC IPOs reached record highs in 2021, increasing to 613 from 248 in 2020 - compare that to just 59 in 2019! I know, everyone financial content creator has done something on SPACs - I'm no different here, but I think Louis provides really interesting insights into the evolution of SPACs, as well as his thoughts on what the future holds.

I've been doing interviews with Cannabis investors and companies since 2014. To say the industry has been volatile would be an understatement. There's been a lot of excitement about potential legalization, anxiety it's not done yet; it's felt like we've been in this purgatory forever. Once and for all, I wanted to understand why the Cannabis industry has made me feel that way, where we are currently at from an investor perspective and what the future holds. For this episode of the Planet MicroCap Podcast, I spoke with David Sable, Portfolio Manager at Special Situations Fund, and Professor at Columbia University teaching the course "Entrepreneurship in Biotechnology." I became aware of David when he gave a presentation at Ian and Mike's MicroCapClub Leadership Summit I think 1-2 years ago, and have been a fan ever since. Life Sciences, healthcare, biotech, medtech make up a huge portion of Small, Micro and Nano-cap companies, and while most are pre-revenue, early-stage in the clinic, that doesn't necessarily mean that every one of those opportunities are for the Doctors and experts. Sure, you need some basic understanding of statistics, but as you'll come to learn during the course of my chat with David, that can be acquired and put to good use. As David expresses multiple times throughout our chat, investing in Life Sciences and Healthcare, is an exercise in problem solving, and I really enjoyed learning more about how to apply that simple concept in an area I always thought you needed 8 years of medical school to understand.

I didn't really know what to expect prior to our chat - I read William's book, and was excited to chat but you know, chat about the book, his background, the usual. But, wow. I don't really know the best way to preface this conversation other than it has been one of my favorite interviews I've done for this show. William has an encyclopedic recall, professor-like ability to distill important lessons from his resources, and conveyed in an incredibly humble way.
